Bill Callahan’s new album is gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. His music drifted away from me since the stellar “Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle”, which was released a stunning 10 years ago, and still is one of my favorite records ever. Callahan will be playing in Utrecht later this year, at the same venue where […]

I got an emergency ticket to the Best Kept Secret festival, should I not have been able to find a way into Stereolab’s sold-out show at the Botanique in time. Although I suppose outdoor festivals this size aren’t for me, it was great seeing Stereolab again, and Priests later that day. Their off-kilter songs sent […]
Stereolab reigned supreme in Brussels. Their show consisted exclusively of old songs, of course, because there aren’t any new ones. Some of those are my favorite songs in the world. A true blessing seeing and hearing them for the first time in, for me personally, eighteen years.
After two incredible albums, 2015’s Sore and last year’s Heaven, Dilly Dally is currently one of my favorite bands. So great seeing them again in Amsterdam yesterday. The hurricane force of Katie Monks is truly unbelievable.
Residents of the US are an unlucky bunch, but at least they’ll have the privilege of seeing Bikini Kill perform live for the first time since 1997.
I expected Mary Timony’s new band Ex Hex to be a one-off, but hell no: there’s a new record out in March.
And this is the ‘too long, didn’t listen’ list of just my ten favorite songs, also from the least to the most noisy.
These are my favorite songs of this year. I figured I had to stick them in some order, so I ordered them from the least up to the most noisy.
I always thought that liking the earliest Rainer Maria records was kind of a guilty pleasure, but my favorite album of theirs got the Pitchfork Seal of Approval, so yeah.
God said give ’em drum machines.
I’m obsessed with Cat Power’s gorgeous song “Woman”.
YOWLER’s new album is just astonishing.
Went to see the Beths in my hometown – their album is one my personal favorites this year, and their show was awesome. If you’re into Death Cab For Cutie, you can catch the Beths again as support during their European tour. On a much bigger stage, and well-deserved.
Stuck in my head song of today: Speedy Ortiz – “Villain”
Get your gorgeous Kim Gordon-drawn Carrie Brownstein t-shirt. In doing so, a girl in Togo can attend school for a full year.
I know I’m starting to sound like some dude constantly harping on his old favorites, but the reissue of Bikini Kill’s singles compilation couldn’t not be mentioned. 25-some years in, these songs still are such a monumental triumph, calling patriarchy, harassment and prejudice towards women to order, before ripping right through it. It was awesome […]
Loud And Quiet did an interview with Lala Lala.
Stereolab’s “Switched On”, “Refried Ectoplasm” and “Aluminium Tunes” have been reissued on LP. Pitchfork did an extensive review. These are among my favorite albums in the world.
Lala Lala’s album is one of the highlights of this year. She’s (supposedly) playing at Vera Groningen on February 23rd, and at the Paradiso on February 25th. Her song “Destroyer” reminds me of Pavement – in a good way.
Pitchfork reviews “3 Feet High and Rising”. When I was a kid, I bought a number of records that in hindsight turned out to be quite terrible, but De La Soul’s first album is still amazing.
